Brand History

bcc6c20a4cd70789993fe04f12d3b331_tn.gifIn 2001, furniture designer Jacob Marks relocated from San Francisco to North Carolina and founded Skram Furniture Company. Two years later, the BC Bedroom collection was introduced. The range features a bed, a three-drawer side, and two six-drawer bureaus in vertical and horizontal formations. All pieces in the collection were made with solid hardwood, recessed pulls, and stainless steel ball bearing slides, and each piece is finished with industrial-strength water-based polyurethane. The range was also made to order to meet customer specifications.

In 2004, Skram introduced the Wishbone series, consisting of six primary customizable pieces. The focus of this collection leaned more toward office furnishings, and the range consisted of a bench, an easy chair, two tables, and two storage pieces. The collection's stainless still and powder coated bases are paired with wood surfaces hand-rubbed with durable shellac and polyurethane finishes. The range is characterized by hand-stitched veneers and solid wood inlay,

Skram introduced the Lineground Collection in 2006 at ICF in New York. This collection also produced six pieces that move comfortably between the office and the home, as did the prvious Wishbone collection. The emphasis leans slightly more back toward the domestic, featuring a dining table, armchair, side table/nightstand, two-drawer console, four-drawer sideboard, and a wall mirror. As has come to be standard for Skram, the pieces are made with solid wood, and the series features increased incorporation of mortise-and-tenon construction and greater attention to ergonomics and multifunctionality (as seen in the mirror, which doubles as a shelf).

Recently, Marks and Skram have begun a collaboration with Vladimir Kagan to produce the renowned designer’s custom designs.

In the brand's own words, "Skram is a direct resource for design professionals and end users. Their products--crafted according to the notion that innovative design is nothing without meticulous workmanship—are made-to-order and customizable in material, scale and configuration. Utilizing premium materials and traditional joinery in conjunction with efficient, modern fabrication technologies, skram delivers consummately crafted furniture intended for generations of use."
