Substance - December 21 2006Insect Lab Studio4
One day RISD-educated artist Mike Libby found a dead intact beetle and considered it alongside an old wristwatch, coming to the conclusion that both operated and looked like small mechanical devices. Combining the two into a cybernetic sculpture, Libby was on his way to what would become Insect Lab, a design studio that blends spiders, beetles, butterflies, and similar creatures with mechanical components. Kind of freaky and kind of reminiscent of a high school science class, Libby's work brings a little of the magic of tinkering back. Check out the Insect Lab collection right here--most of which is for sale, priced between $200 and $400--and contact Insect Lab directly for purchasing information. By: cory o'malley |
