Design - October 02 2006NextFest '06: E-Taf Automatic Door3 New York City saw the arrival of the Wired NextFest this last weekend, "a four-day festival of innovative products and technologies that are transforming our world...patterned on the great World's Fairs of the past." A variety of inspired innovations were on display, including this E-Taf Automatic Door [Japanese product page]. Spotted last month by WMMNA (don't miss the video), this Automatic door features strips that stack vertically up the door, each equipped with an infrared sensor that identifies the shape of your body, opening a space just large enough for you to step through. The idea is to keep out dust, pollen, etc, but you can see how it might conserve cool air in an air-conditioned room, as well. By: robert o'neill |

Man, all you need is a flying car with a robotic version of Edward James Olmos (or a Cylon named Adama for all you sci-fi virgins out there), and you're gonna be freaking Detective Deckard. |
